FOLIC ACID or Vitamin B9
Vitamin B9 or folic acid (folic acid and folate inclusive) is essential to numerous bodily functions. The human body needs folate to synthesize DNA, repair DNA, and methylate DNA as well as to act as a cofactor in biological reactions involving folate.
Any one planning to become pregnant you should take folic acid supplements. If you take folic acid supplements in early pregnancy you reduce the risk of having a baby born with a spinal cord problem such as spina bifida. This is because the early development of the baby’s spinal cord requires a regular, good supply of folic acid. vitamin B12 is necessary for the formation of red blood cells.
