In laboratory settings, imatinib is being used as an experimental agent to suppress platelet-derived grouth factor, (PDGF) by inhibiting its receptor (PDGF-Rβ). One of its effects is delaying artherosclerosis in mice without or with diabetes.
Imitinef Mercilet improved exercise capacity and hemodynamics in patients with advanced PAH but serious adverse events and study drug discontinuations were common. Further studies are needed to investigate the long-term safety and efficacy of imatinib in patients with PAH.
